History ..................................................................................Back to Musicians >>
In 1993, three musicians from the Houston Ballet and Grand Opera joined together to form the Elizabeth Trio, with violinist Elizabeth McKenna as leader.
As business grew, this Trio increased in size from three players to four to form a Quartet, supplemented occasionally by additional musicians. The additional players were used when Beth’s quartet was unavailable, due to other events, or a professional work schedule. All musicians were members of the top three performing arts groups in Houston – the Grand Opera, Ballet and Symphony, guaranteeing the highest level of excellence.
In March 2005 Beth McKenna Greenberg moved from Texas. Amy Teare proudly became the group’s new leader, carrying on the tradition under the new name The Houston String Quartet. As owner, Amy takes a hands-on approach and is responsible for all business, including arranging the music. Amy has also been a member of the Houston Symphony since 1982, and is fully qualified to act as the coordinator for your special occasion.
Amy Teare considers it an honor to have had the great fortune of performing for and enhancing weddings for 30 years. She has also chaired many special events for her Civic Association and church, and has taught private violin lessons to many school age children.
The Houston String Quartet and Trio continue to feature celebrated musicians from Houston’s premier ensembles. Our professionalism and commitment to quality guarantees satisfaction at every event.
Make your next event exquisite through our dedication to polished performances. With exceptional organization and attention to detail we make every occasion a memorable one. Thank You for your interest in the Houston String Quartet, we are looking forward to working with you.
